Inside Studio Axiom

Some ideas
stay for years.

Drawing has been part of my life since I was a little boy. I never stopped. Studio Axiom gives that continuing work a place of its own.

A thought becomes something else.

I often begin with a thought, a feeling or something that has happened in my life. As I draw, forms appear and connect. I can become deeply absorbed in the process, almost meditative.

The meaning is not always clear at the start. Sometimes I recognise it after the drawing is finished, or days later. Over time, the pages have become a visual record of thoughts and feelings I could not always put into words.

Following an idea beyond the page.

Some work remains a drawing or a painting. Other images develop digitally, find their way onto objects or lead towards a spatial experience. A project can stay with me for years while I work towards the result I want.

That is part of what this studio holds: finished pieces, persistent questions and experiments that have not yet settled into their final form.

Why Axiom?

For me, Axiom stands for something fundamental and enduring. The underlying thing that connects us, even when we are not conscious of it. It is a thought behind the name, rather than an explanation imposed on every work.

Something made for you.

A commission can begin with a particular object, a person, an occasion or a half-formed idea. I enjoy the exchange that helps an image take shape. The work can be personal and precise while leaving room for discovery.
